Summary / Overview (āĻŽূāϞ āĻাā§ą)

"My Ramayana Days" is a nostalgic recount of the author's childhood during the late 1980s when television was a rare luxury. The story revolves around the immense popularity of the epic serial 'Ramayana' on Doordarshan. Initially, the author's family had to rush to a neighbor's house (Jain Uncle's family) just to catch a glimpse of the show, often returning disappointed due to lack of space. To save them from tears, the author's parents finally bought a TV set, which transformed their verandah into a gathering spot for the neighborhood.

The lesson humorously highlights the struggles of early television viewers, such as rotating a bamboo antenna for a clear signal, dealing with voltage fluctuations using double stabilizers, and parents locking the TV with a key to ensure kids studied. Despite having only one or two channels like DD1 and Metro, the joy, simplicity, and togetherness of families watching shows like 'Chitrahar', 'Jungle Book', and regional films were unmatched. The author concludes by reflecting on how modern technology offers endless channels today, but the communal joy of those "Ramayana days" is deeply missed.

After getting the TV set, we faced another problem, i.e., getting proper signals, especially during rainy or cloudy days.

Writing Activity: Amplification

1. United we stand, divided we fall

This proverb emphasizes the immense strength found in unity. When people stand together, supporting and helping each other, they become a formidable force capable of overcoming great challenges. A single stick can be broken easily, but a bundle of sticks is much harder to break. Similarly, if a group is divided by internal conflicts or personal interests, they become weak and vulnerable to failure. History shows that nations, teams, and families prosper when united, but collapse when divided. Therefore, unity is essential for strength, survival, and success.

2. Self-help is the best help

This proverb teaches us the importance of self-reliance and independence. While seeking help from others is sometimes necessary, relying entirely on them makes us weak and dependent. When we take the initiative to solve our own problems, we build confidence, learn new skills, and become more resilient. Depending on others often leads to disappointment because they may not always be available or willing to assist. True success and satisfaction come from hard work and our own efforts, as it is rightly said that God helps those who help themselves.
